Your Challenge

The goal is to build an app that delivers impactful decision-making support in healthcare by:

  • Harnessing AI and Machine Learning: Use advanced algorithms and predictive models to uncover meaningful insights from data.

  • Generating Actionable Insights: Create outputs like predictions, classifications, or recommendations that improve decision-making.

  • Solving Real Healthcare Problems: Address real-world challenges with innovative, scalable, and practical solutions.

How It Will Work

For this challenge, you will use the MeldRx platform. MeldRx is an ONC-certified healthcare platform that provides a fully managed FHIR-first backend as a service. App developers can register, test, and publish all types of SMART on FHIR apps. Apps created on the MeldRx platform are built on HL7 FHIR standards, ensuring they can integrate seamlessly with any healthcare system supporting these standards.

Why MeldRx?
  • FHIR Standards Built-In: MeldRx ensures your apps comply with HL7 FHIR standards, so they work across any system that supports FHIR, including EHRs.
  • SMART on FHIR Support: Develop apps that integrate with healthcare systems using SMART on FHIR protocols effortlessly.

  • FHIR First Workspaces: Provision FHIR workspaces in seconds to test your apps with your own data.

  • Connect to Others EHRs: Connect your app to other EHRs from within MeldRx using MeldRx Linked Workspaces

  • Easy Publishing: Once complete, you can deploy your apps on the MeldRx platform, making them available for use and collaboration across the ecosystem.

With MeldRx, you can focus on innovation while ensuring your apps are interoperable, standards-compliant, and ready to impact real-world healthcare systems.

Requirements

What to Build

Entrant must build a predictive AI app. The app may be new or existing. The predictive AI app should meet the following criteria:

  • The app must support decision-making (not limited to clinical) based on algorithms or models (e.g. LLM)
    • Expected decision-making outputs must include any of the following: predictions, classifications, recommendations, evaluations, or analysis
  • The app must support launching through the SMART on FHIR standard either using EHR Launch or CDS Hooks and leverage the data in the FHIR R4 format
  • Entrants must create or use an existing developer account on app.meldrx.com
  • Entrants must register and publish the Predictive AI app on app.meldrx.com under their developer account
  • The app must be published on MeldRx with all required fields completed
  • Entrant must be authorized to use any third-party libraries or integrations per the tool’s terms and conditions or licensing requirements

What to Submit

Submissions to the Hackathon must meet the following requirements:

  • Include a Project that meets the above Project Requirements
  • Include a text description that should explain the features, functionality, predictive accuracy, and potential impact of your Project
  • Include the App Details of the app registered at app.meldrx.com
  • Include a demonstration video of your Project. The video portion of the Submission:
    • should be less than three (3) minutes. Judges are not required to watch beyond three minutes
    • must include footage demonstrating the Project functioning on the device for which it was built, specifically showing the app launching from MeldRx using either CDS Hooks or EHR Launch. Submissions that do not demonstrate the app launching from MeldRx will not be considered
    • must be uploaded to and made publicly visible on YouTube or Vimeo, and a link to the video must be provided on the submission form on the Hackathon Website; and
    • must not include third-party trademarks, music, images, or other copyrighted material unless the Entrant has permission to freely use such material
